Members of the Water Tribunal Attend the 16th National Congress of Irrigation Communities

From April 13 to 17, members of the Vega de Valencia Water Tribunal will travel to Ciudad Real to participate in the 16th National Congress of Irrigation Communities, held under the theme of unity #somosregadío. This congress brings together irrigators from all over Spain; experts from irrigation communities; researchers; business leaders in the sector; and political representatives to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing irrigation in Spain; the economic and sustainability impacts of irrigation; and its impact on society, marking a turning point for the national agricultural sector.

The main focus of this conference is WATER, a resource that is so precious to the agricultural sector. The goal is to effectively manage a scarce resource such as water.

National Congress of Irrigation Communities

This year, the conference was held for the first time in Castilla-La Mancha, at the Ciudad Real Exhibition Center (IFEDI), organized by the National Federation of Irrigation Communities of Spain (FENACORE) and the Western Mancha II Groundwater Users’ Association (CUAS).

This event serves as a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experiences among the country’s various irrigation communities, where companies and organizations involved in Spain’s important irrigation sector have been able to showcase their latest innovations, tools, and products in a setting designed for that purpose, with ample time to network with conference attendees. The event also featured high-level keynote speeches, presentations, and an engaging recreational program.

José Soria, vice president of the Water Tribunal, participated in the final day of the conference with a presentation in which he highlighted the importance of irrigation in the Levante region of Europe. In his speech, he emphasized the need to work together so that farmers’ voices are heard, understood, and taken into account in Europe, because, as he put it: “the future of our sector is built in our regions but is also decided in Brussels”.

During the week, the irrigators attend the traditional dinner organized by the National Congress of Irrigation Communities.
