It was one of the most important hydraulic systems in the huerta of Valencia, although today its mills have almost completely disappeared due to urban growth.

Historically, it irrigated the strip of orchard closest to the city of Valencia and extended its perimeter to the sea, reaching the current neighborhoods of Grau, Cabanyal and Malvarrosa. It is likely that its current configuration is the result of the integration of old independent irrigation ditches. At present, it is one of the most affected by urban expansion.

Its weir, located upstream of the Rascanya weir, is located between the municipalities of Manises and Paterna. The mother ditch, with a traditional endowment of 14 rows and its four large arms, approaches the city through the Campanar orchard.

The first major bifurcation corresponds to the Petra branch, which starts shortly after the Campanar cemetery. It enters the city around the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital and Safor street, continues through the area of Doctor Nicasio Benlloch and General Avilés avenue, crosses Juan XXIII and reaches the Moncada road. There, by means of tongues, it subdivides into two: one branch that goes towards Poble Nou and Carpesa, and another – known as San Jerónimo – that goes into the Torrefiel neighborhood.

Another of the branches skirts the current Mestalla stadium and, after crossing the avenues of General Avilés and Campanar, enters the Tendetes neighborhood.

The mother canal crosses the Avenida de las Cortes Valencianas and continues along Tendetes, approaching the old suburb of Morvedre. After crossing the grounds of the old Estación Valenciana, when it reaches Alboraya street it subdivides into the Escamarda and Rams branches.

The Escamarda branch runs through the surroundings of the old Carmelite convent towards the Genaro Lahuerta area, where it divides again into the Alegret and les Files (Fonda and Ampla) branches. With them it irrigates Benimaclet, the road to Vera and the current surroundings of the Universitat Politècnica de València.

The Rams branch heads towards the Jardines del Real and Blasco Ibáñez Avenue. Following the route of Artes Gráficas street, it subdivides into the Arquet branch -which crosses Blasco Ibáñez and Cataluña avenue towards Malvarrosa- while the main branch continues towards the Mestalla stadium, crosses Aragón avenue, enters the Sant Josep neighborhood and finally heads towards the current Serrería boulevard.

For its part, the Algirós branch separates from the main irrigation channel at the height of Burjassot Avenue. It approaches the left bank of the river, crosses the Jardines del Real and surrounds the Jardines de Monforte, entering through Doctor Moliner street towards Micer Mascó. To the south of the Mestalla stadium it branches off into various branches: the ullal de Sales and the branches of Algirós, Roca, the acequia del Gas, the mill of Las Fuentes and Carmona. These branches historically irrigated the area comprising the current neighborhoods of Ciudad Jardín, Albors, Ayora, Camí Fondo, la Creu del Grau and Penya-roja.

Of the old hydraulic system of the Mestalla irrigation channel, hardly any heritage elements remain: the 17th century weir, with its gates, beacon and sluice gates among the Turia reed beds, some tongues and only a few mills -four of the twenty-three that existed at the beginning of the 20th century-, and a few mills -four of the twenty-three that existed at the beginning of the 20th century-.

["post-2713","acequia","type-acequia","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
